Discussion

In 2022 the total population of the UK was around 67.5 million with an average population density 279 per sq.km. (Office for National Statistics). UK population and population density however, does vary considerably between country with England having the highest population, 57.1 million and the highest population density, 438 per sq.km. This is an high density, and one of the highest in Western Europe.

If we consider that the best places to live, from a survival standpoint, are more issolated low population villages, there are obvious areas to avoid in the UK and areas that appear to be much better.

Places to avoid - London and suburbs, major cities, such as Birmingham, Leeds, Manchester etc., major towns with populations over 20,000.

Best places - Small towns and villages in the Scotish Highlands, South Scotland, Northern Ireland (other than near Belfast), North England and Lake District, North Yorkshire, North and Central Wales, and South West England.
